In Malaysia, few cars say “VIP” like a Toyota Alphard or Vellfire. Ministers, celebrities, wedding couples and corporate guests all choose them, and for good reason: they are quiet, spacious and easy to step into in formal clothes. Here is what to know before you rent one in Kuala Lumpur.
Why the Alphard and Vellfire are so popular
- Captain seats. The second row has two reclining lounge seats with leg rests. In Executive Lounge versions they are among the most comfortable seats in any car.
- Easy access. Power sliding doors and a low floor make getting in graceful, even in a baju kurung, saree or wedding gown.
- Space for everyone. Seven seats in total, with room for luggage behind the third row.
- Quiet and smooth. Ideal for long drives to Melaka, Ipoh or Genting.
- Presence without flash. It looks important without looking showy, which suits business and family events.
How much does it cost to rent?
At Kreto, the Toyota Vellfire Executive Lounge is available from RM 900 per day, with lower weekly and monthly rates. Add a professional chauffeur for RM 450 per day (up to 10 hours).
Prices can be higher during peak wedding season, school holidays and Hari Raya, so book early for those dates.

Alphard vs Vellfire: what is the difference?
The Alphard and Vellfire are twins built on the same platform, with the same cabin layout and similar comfort. The main differences are styling and positioning:
- Alphard: more formal and stately, with a large chrome grille. Traditionally positioned as the more luxurious of the two.
- Vellfire: sportier, darker styling, popular with younger buyers and for weddings with a modern look.
In the current generation sold in Malaysia, the two also use different engines (the Vellfire with a 2.5-litre engine, the Alphard with a 2.4-litre turbo), but in day-to-day chauffeured use both feel similar. Many rental fleets, including ours, also run the previous generation, which is just as comfortable.
Our advice: choose the one whose look suits your occasion. For comfort, both are excellent. If you need a specific model or colour for wedding photos, mention it when you book.
Self-drive or with a chauffeur?
Both are possible. Many customers rent the Vellfire with a chauffeur because:
- The best seats are in the second row, so being driven is the point.
- Parking a large MPV in KL city centre and hotels takes practice.
- For weddings and VIP guests, a uniformed chauffeur adds to the occasion.
